This is a very 21st Century Concept album (well in actuality its a soundtrack to a Play but whos counting) Its a Musical Magic carpet ride thru last seasons Arab Spring/Summer of Uprisings.All in,Beats Of A Revolution is approx 40 mins of Sonic Sufism.AJK's rhythmns an musicality really show off his Middle Eastern DNA here.All beats set the tone superbly,u know where u are.To quote Dj Shadows first 12'-Entropy 'the scene is set,the cards have been dealt' Track 6-TEARS,for example, is a tough beat,it hits hard,so hard that u can really feel the ominous spectre of death and danger in every snare crack and djembi whack,there is also a hint of Jungle Boogie by Kool And The Gang in this beat (if K+TG had gone to Egypt to make it that is) There are some nice switch ups here as well which realistically reflect those moments of trepidation.The hope and expectation of the people are captured perfectly in this piece.Pianos shreak out and augment in Poetic,then they pensively meander along Cairo backstreets as goat skin drums thud out a well weary path.A hand drummed alphabet frequently spells out words of caution like Apache smoke signals and Oud and Vocals compliment perfectly.

Beats Of A Revolution is masterfully constructed and arranged-no doubt.Drums advance like swarming crowds and there is some amazing call an responce activity throughout.All procedings are punctuated perfectly by sporadic outbursts of drumspeak and theres even a touch of Angelique Kidjo about 'Protest'.This isnt a 'boot up the comp and sequence some samples'affair.AJK has a big pair of earthboots and has ammassed an amazing collection of drum and percussion instruments in his travels, so theres an immense array on display here,all gelling superbly together with a nice complimenting air,great stereo imaging and plenty space to let each instrument breathe.To finish up theres a Moombahton/Dembow remix of Poetics which really throws up some slick composition skiils,as a damp filtered drum drapes a plethora of overdubs in the form of pianos,cellos and basses to help create a fabulous soundtracky fabric.This is Bona Fide tuck,as in,proper,Bona,Fide.The Real Deal.
